How to charge at fast chargers in Germany

 

Welcome to the user manual for fast charge points in Germany. Below you will find separate information on charging with RFID card / tag or Mobility App as well as ad-hoc charging via QR code / NFC.

Ad-hoc charging
(QR-Code/NFC)

Account-based charging via RFID or Mobility App

Use your RFID card / tag or your Mobility App as usual. The prerequisite is that your E-Mobility Service Provider (EMSP) supports our Shell Recharge points. The tariffs of your EMSP apply.

 

  • To start the charging process, use your RFID card, your RFID tag or the Mobility App of your E-Mobility Service Provider (EMSP) as usual.
  • Billing is also done as usual via your account with the EMSP.

Step 1 – (START)

Hold your RFID card / tag against the RFID reader below the LED display or select the charging station in your Mobility App. The charging price per kWh is shown on the LED display and in your Mobility App.

Step 2

The charging station unlocks the available of the two charge points. Then connect your charging cable first to the charging station (1) and then to your vehicle (2).

Step 3

Blue flashing light on the left and right side of the charge point signals that your vehicle is being charged. You can view information about the charging process on the LED display.

Step 4 – (STOP)

Ending the charging process depends on the form of authorisation:

  • You have started the charging process in your app: End the process in your app.
  • You have started the charging process with RFID card / tag: End the process by presenting the card / tag again for 2 seconds.

Step 5

The charging point ends the charging process and unlocks the cable. Then disconnect your charging cable first at the charge point (1) and then at your vehicle (2).

You will receive the bill according to the billing of your E-Mobility Service Provider (EMSP).

Ad-hoc Charging

 

  • If you do not have an account with an E-Mobility Service Provider (EMSP), simply use the QR code / NFC tag above one of the two charge points to authorise the charging process.
  • To do so, follow the instructions on the mobile website after scanning the QR code / NFC tag.
  • The rates per kWh are displayed online before payment (Apple Pay / Google Pay / credit card). Payment is made after the charging process.

Step 1 – (START)

Scan the QR code of an available charge point with your smartphone or hold your smartphone against the NFC symbol next to the QR code. Then follow the link that appears.

(Please note: Each of the two charge points has an individual QR code / NFC tag).

Step 2

Follow the instructions on your smartphone, enter your payment details and authorise the charging process.

(Apple Pay / Google Pay / credit card possible)

Step 3

The charging station unlocks the according charge point. First connect your charging cable to the charging station (1) and then to your vehicle (2).

Step 4

Step 5 – (STOP)

To stop charging, first unlock your vehicle. Then release the charging cable lock on your vehicle. Now disconnect the charging cable first from your vehicle (1) and then from the charging station (2).

(Note: this step may vary depending on the type of vehicle).
